The Winery

The Colibri Ridge Winery is located inside a small barn-like structure, which is a combined tasting and aging room. Colibri means “hummingbird” in French, a theme found throughout the winery. Inside the tasting room, there is a selection of gifts available for sale, as well as a selection of the Colibri wines. The view of the foothills from the small picnic area is exceptional.

The Vineyards

The vineyards themselves are on a ridge top, planted in the well draining granitic soils that the Fair Play AVA is known for. The winery also imports grapes from several other foothill vineyards, increasing the diversity of their catalog.

The Wines

The winery specializes in Bordeaux and Rhone style wines, but is expanding into the Spanish grape Tempranillo. They produce the extremely rare White Port which is nicely balanced and complex. This wine is very popular and sells out extremely quickly.

The Winemaker

John Alexander is the owner and winemaker at Colibri Ridge. If your travels bring you there on a weekend, you are likely to have the good fortune to meet and discuss his winemaking with him personally.
