The Winery

The Karmere tasting room is located amongst the rolling vineyard land of the Shenandoah Valley, featuring wonderful local views. The tasting facility is large, with a warm European flare. The light woods, tile floors and beam ceilings make the room bright and inviting. In addition to wine, the tasting room has a number of upscale household items for sale.

The Vineyards

The estate has 65 acres of vineyards located between the 1300 to 1600-foot elevations. Zinfandel, Barbera, Syrah, and Nebbiolo are the primary grapes produced on the decomposed granitic soils. The vineyards are sustainably farmed, meaning, among other things, they use minimal chemical intervention, instead employing organic pest control whenever possible.

The Wines

Karmere produces three different Zins and two very popular Syrahs, all of which have enjoyed great success. However, their Barbera is a rising star having won multiple gold medals including one in an international Barbera competition in Alessandria, Italy. They also produce two very refreshing, and light, sparkling wines that are quite popular locally.

The Winemaker

Ryan Flock is the winemaker at Karmere. Prior to this position he was at Rosenblum Cellars in Alameda, California.
