The Winery

Renwood was founded in 1993, and in 1994 added Santino Winery to the estate. The winery continues to produce wines under both labels. The tasting room, done in a Spanish Mission style, is very large with several different rooms to accommodate multiple parties for tasting. The room that houses the tasting bar is decorated to look like an Old West saloon with a redwood bar. There is a wonderful wine and cheese shop next to the tasting room with a vast array of picnic foods to enjoy, with your wine purchases. They also sell a large selection of international gift items next to the cheese shop.

The Vineyards

Renwood grows a number of different varietals on the estate, including their locally famous Grandpere Zinfandel Old Vine clone. The Grandmere Zins Vineyard is also used to produce a vineyard select wine for the estate. Additional land is planted to Barbera, Viognier, Orange Muscat and Nebbiolo. The winery purchases Old Vine Zinfandel grapes from the famous Jack Flat Vineyards (a part of the Old Vine Fox Vineyards), the D’Agostini Bros. Vineyard, and Fiddletown Vineyard. The winery purchases grapes from throughout Amador County and other parts of California to use in their varietal blends.

The Wines

Renwood has based a great deal of their reputation on making world class Zinfandels, including six vineyard designated wines. Their Italian varietals, Barbera and Sangiovese, are local favorites as well. The winery also produces one of the only Ice Wine coming out of the foothills, Amador Ice Zinfandel, using a special process created by the winery.

The Winemaker

Dave Crippen, originally from Covey Run in Washington State, is the managing winemaker at the Renwood estate. Even though the winery produces in excess of 100,000 cases of wine a year, the select vineyard Amador Zinfandels are still handcrafted.
