The Winery

Sutter Creek Vineyards is the home to the Sutter Ridge Winery, located just five minutes from downtown Sutter Creek on Ridge Road. The recently remodeled tasting room offers wine related and foods for sale as well as the estate wines. Located near the picnic lawn and rose garden and native California vegetation are 2 Bocce Ball courts. Available by appointment only are equestrian, hiking and mountain bike trails.

The Vineyards

The tasting room is surrounded by 175 acres of Viognier, Chardonnay, Orange Muscat, Sousao, Syrah, Petite Sirah, Nebbiolo, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Sangiovese, Pinotage and Aglianico. In addition to producing their own wines, grapes are sold througout the United States.

The Wines

The award winning wines of Sutter Ridge tend to have a ripe fruit flavor profile, which is a hallmark of the Amador Wine Region. All except the Zinfandel, are estate grown. Sutter Ridge is thought to be the largest United S producer of Pinotage, a grape that orginated in South Africa from the cross of Pinot Noir and Cinsaut.

The Winemaker

A third generation California grape grower, John Bree, is the founder of the winery. His son John, and daughter Gretchen, are also a part of the winery and vineyard business. The elder John continues to be the winemaker along with the assistance of Eric Costa, who is an acknowledged expert on the history of winemaking in the Sierra Nevada Foothills.
