List of Wineries in Tuolumne County

This wine region is just beginning its re-emergence as a fine wine region. Currently it hosts only one winery that makes wine in the county and one tasting room that makes it's wines in Napa County. Like most of the foothills it is dependent on the cool breezes off the Sierra's at night to create complexity by preventing the grapes from ripening too quickly.
      
Costello's Mountain Brow Winery - Sonora, California

The Winery
Located between the Gold Rush towns of Sonora and Columbia on Highway 49, the winery is situated on a knoll with local views of the vineyards and surrounding hills. The tasting room offers a whimsical selection of gourmet wine and food supplies. Directly outside the main doors is a large patio area at the entrance with tables and benches to enjoy the ambiance.

The Winemaker
Jim Costello, the winemaker for Mt. Brow is the grandson of an Italian immigrant and home winemaker with a lifetime passion for wine. He followed his grandfather’s footsteps and soon converted that to love to a commercial operation in 2003.

La Bella Rosa Vineyards - Sonora, California

The Winery
The rustic style tasting room is surrounded by beautifully landscaped gardens and a picturesque pond. While tasting wines you can shop in their extensive gift shop and then take a stroll through the incredible gardens, a great way to spend the afternoon.

The Winemaker
The winemaker at La Bella Rosa Vineyards is owner Ron Peterson. Mr. Peterson was a general contractor before taking up viticulture and winemaking fulltime.

The Winery
The Muir-Hanna Vineyard and Winery is actually located in the Oak Knoll district of the Napa Valley with a tasting room operated in Sonora. Founder of the winery, John Muir Hanna, if the grandson of naturalist John Muir. He decided to locate his tasting room in Tuolumne County in order to celebrate the family history. The tasting room is littered with memorabilia and historical information...

The Winemaker
The winery is owned and operated by Bill and Claudia Muir Hanna. Their son Michael is the winemaker at the winery.
