List of Wineries in North Yuba
The North Yuba AVA is farily small at only 30 square miles. It includes the area from Oregon House east of Rice Crossing Road to roughly Dobbins just west of the Yuba River. The area is known for its mineral rich loamy clay soils, warm days, cool nights and an average annual rainfall average of 51 inches. The AVA is located entirely within the Sierra Foothills AVA, at its most northerly edge. For our purposes we also add the one winery in the AVA that is across the street from its western border.
Clos Saron - Oregon House, California
Located on the lower north east slope of a broad valley, Clos Saron is uniquely positioned to collect large amount of cold flowing off of the Sierras. That, along with the fact that the vineyard slope orientation keeps it shaded most of the day makes the vineyards at the winery the perfect spot for growing Pinot Noir.
Gideon Beinstock, the winemaker and owner of Clos Saron, studied winemaking in the Burgundy and Rhone region of France. He believes in a minimalist approach to winemaking, using gentle extraction methods, no filtering or fining and expressing the terroir of the vineyard and not just the grape varietal. Gideon is also the winemaker at Renaissance Winery.
Grant- Ed Winery (formerly Ramey Schulten) - Oregon House, California
The Ramey Schulten Winery was founded by Grant Ramey, the original vineyard manager for Renaissance Winery and Edward Schulten, a master sommelier and winemaker from the Netherlands. The two had been winning awards at amateur contests for over 20 years when they decided to open a commercial winery in 2004. They currently share space for their winery with Renaissance, in the main winery building...
Winemaking duties are shared by Grant Ramey and Edward Schulten. Grant, who studied at UC Davis, is a native of Yuba County and was the vineyard manager for Renaissance for 28 years. Edward Schulten was born in the Netherlands and learned his winemaking style from some of the great wine institutions in France.
Lucero Winery - Dobbins, California
The estate, located in the small town of Dobbins, has been in the family since 1906. The property was originally used as a cattle ranch and farm. When the current owners, Dan and Marian Lucero retired they decided to start a vineyard.
The winemaker at Lucero Vineyards is winery owner Dan Lucero. To enhance his winemaking skills he has taken numerous classes at University of California at Davis.
Renaissance Vineyard & Winery - Oregon House, California
Renaissance Vineyard and Winery is located in a remote area of Yuba called Oregon House. The grounds are beautifully landscaped with formal European style gardens, ponds, and great vineyard views. The tasting room has floor to ceiling windows that offer a view of the small lake. There are nearby picnic tables where you can enjoy your lunch. The winery offers numerous tasting experiences,...
